Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is natural overlap between coaching and therapy but there are also important distinctions. My style of coaching is therapeutic in the sense that I explore a client's inner world, emotions, patterns, childhood imprints, pain points, etc. with the same kind of depth and attentiveness one would expect with a traditional therapist. Also, my sessions are talk based - though can also include somatic approaches like breath work, tapping and meditation techniques if deemed useful. It's important to note: coaches are not legally qualified to make diagnoses, mental health assessments or arrange targeted treatment plans to reduce psychological symptoms related to a client's mental health condition. Coaching work is also not regulated by ethics boards the way therapy is; there are looser guidelines and greater flexibility. Coaches can work with clients out of state or country.

  • The Grief Educator program is David Kessler's certification course specifically designed to fill in the gap so many mental health practitioners face in their curriculum when it comes to healing and mental health. Grief is both specific and universal. It's something all of us will experience in our lives because loss is an unavoidable part of being human. And yet very few programs for coaches, therapists and even psychiatrists offer dedicated resources for identifying and working skillfully with bereaved clients. I am grateful to have this specific training in my wheelhouse and to be able to share valuable tools for coping and healing with my clients who are struggling with grief in their lives.

  • In addition to being a coach, I am also a certified meditation teacher. I offer IRL mindfulness meditation workshops locally, in New York and sometimes, if a client is specifically interested, I will incorporate mindfulness exercises in our session work or recommend a meditation practice that we design together.

  • Yes, I work with clients all over the world.

  • My coaching sessions are 60 min long and I work virtually out of my home office in New York (Eastern Standard time zone). Sessions are talk-based and there are often recommendations I share for books, articles, podcasts or journal prompts between our time together so there is a sense of continuity and ongoing personal growth.

  • No, my sessions are not clinical therapy so insurance reimbursement is not an option unfortunately.

  • Most of my clients see me weekly or bi-weekly. I am flexible and willing to meet at a cadence that is right for you. In the beginning of our work together, as we're establishing trust and rapport, it's helpful to meet more often and regularly, but I understand that this is not financially possible for everyone so I do my best to work with you where you're at and make it impactful.

  • I ask to be notified 24 hrs in advance if you can't keep our scheduled time.

  • I am not established as a crisis counselor. Emergencies should be handled by licensed mental health professionals which you can find in your specific area via Google or by contacting emergency services by texting 988, (in the US only), the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline where help is available 24/7.

  • There are no guarantees when it comes to the human experience! But, as a coach, I acknowledge that people want to feel better and see certain changes in their lives - that's the whole point of this work. I am dedicated to taking a pragmatic, proactive approach to moving the needle on what's not working or serving my clients well in their life. My sessions are not intended to be meandering in the dark together. I don't offer platitudes or take the easy path. I have a solid track record, after nearly a decade of doing this work full time, of being adept at facilitating profound shifts that lead to meaningful healing and lasting, positive change.
